HC Deb 24 October 1988 vol 139 cc14-5W
Mr. Wray

To ask the Prime Minister if she will list her Majesty's Government's top priorities on the environment and related issues for the next 24 months and indicate the Government Department or Departments involved in such policies and activities.

The Prime Minister

Her Majesty's Government's main priorities are to reduce further the use of ozone depleting chemicals and to prevent acid rain; to research climate change and the greenhouse effect and to take appropriate action; to protect the environment of the North sea; to strengthen the pollution control framework for water by establishing the National Rivers Authority; to establish an integrated pollution control system and reform the laws on waste disposal. In the developing countries of the Third world, we will direct more of our aid to encourage the wise and sustainable use of forest resources. A number of Government Departments are involved in these policies and activities.
