HC Deb 24 October 1988 vol 139 c5W
74. Mr. John Evans

To ask the Attorney-General what has been the cost to the Government of the Crown Prosecution Service for the last two years.

The Attorney-General

The net cost to the Government of the Crown Prosecution Service for the years to 1986–87 and 1987–88 was as follows:

£ million
1986–87 67.45
1987–88 120.90

The Crown Prosecution Service became a national service on 1 October 1986. Prior to that date, only the former metropolitan counties had been assimilated into the service. This expansion explains the disparity between the two figures given above.
