HC Deb 24 October 1988 vol 139 cc104-5W
47. Mr. Yeo

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what recent representations he has received regarding the rail link from London to the Channel tunnel.

Mr. Portillo

We have received a number of representations, both from those who would like to see the construction of a new line brought forward and from those who are concerned that they would be affected by the possible alignments.

Mr. Adley

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what action he has taken following the publication by British Rail of its capacity report on rail links to the Channel tunnel; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Portillo

I have been working mainly on two issues—first, whether the private sector can be involved in the project, and, secondly, whether the selection of BR's preferred route can be speeded up to minimise uncertainty in Kent.
