Mr. Winnick

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give the latest figures for the number of those in England and Wales who are in bed-and-breakfast accommodation paid for by a local authority; and if he will give the figures from 1978 onwards.

Estimates of the number of households temporarily placed in bed and breakfast accommodation, by English local authorities under the homelessness provisions of Housing Acts, are as follows:
