To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list those local authorities in whose area more than 6.5 per cent, of the private housing stock now stands vacant.

About 80 per cent. (293) of English housing authorities have provided estimates of the number of empty private dwellings (owner-occupied and private rented) in the 1988 housing investment programme returns. Of these, the following 25 authorities reported more than 6.5 per cent, of the private housing stock in their areas as being vacant at 1 April 1988:
