§ Mr. Campbell-SavoursTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the level of pension and the lump sum paid in respect of the previous Lord Chancellor; and what remuneration he receives in his ex officio capacity as a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary.
§ Mr. Brooke[pursuant to his reply 26 July 1988, c. 167]: Contrary to the information given in my earlier reply, former Lord Chancellors are entitled to a tax-free lump sum payment equal to twice their pension on retirement. This payment is abated if there are any contributions outstanding towards the cost of a widow's pension.
