HC Deb 21 October 1988 vol 138 c1015W
Mr. Pike

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what inquiries he has received from schools in the north-west wishing to become grant-maintained schools under the Education Act 1988; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Rumbold

The Education Reform Act provides an opportunity for all secondary schools and primary schools with more than 300 pupils to apply for grant-maintained status if parents so wish. The Department has received inquiries from a large number of parents, governors and others about these provisions of the Act, including some relating to schools in the north-west.
