§ Mr. TrippierThe following 56 English housing authorities have reported, in their 1988 housing investment programme returns, that 4.5 per cent, or more of the total stock in their areas at 1 April 1988 was unfit:—
Allerdale, Barnsley, Birmingham, Blackburn, Bolsover, Bolton, Bradford, Brent, Brighton, Bristol, Bury, Camden, Caradon, Cleethorpes, Ealing, Gedling, Great Grimsby, Hackney, Hammersmith and Fulham, Haringey, Hastings, Hyndburn, Islington, Kensington and Chelsea, Kingston upon Hull, Lambeth, Leeds, Leicester, Malvern Hills, Manchester, Mendip, Mid Suffolk, Newcastle upon Tyne, Newham, Oswestry, Penwith, Preston, Reading, Richmond upon Thames, Rochdale, Rossendale, Rugby, Salford, Sandwell, South Herefordshire, Southwark, St. Helens, Stoke on Trent, Sutton, Tameside, Thurrock, Tower Hamlets, Walsall, Waltham Forest, Wandsworth, Wolverhampton.Five authorities have not yet made a return and a further 21 have not provided estimates of the numbers of unfit dwellings covering their private sector stock.
