HC Deb 20 October 1988 vol 138 c979W
Mr. John Marshall

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster when the terms of the successor regime to replace the Trade Descriptions Act 1972, will be laid before Parliament.

Mr. Forth

I laid before Parliament yesterday the Trade Descriptions (Place of Production) (Marking) Order 1988. This will require goods to be marked with or accompanied by a statement of the place of production, if the goods are presented in a way which is likely to give consumers the impression that the goods were manufactured or produced in a different place. Subject to the parliamentary procedures, the order will come into force on 31 December, at the same time as the repeal of the 1972 Act. The order bringing into force the repeal of the 1972 Act was laid before Parliament in draft on 29 July.
