HL Deb 20 October 1988 vol 500 c1351WA
Lord Jenkin of Roding

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What remuneration is paid to County Court Judges in Northern Ireland.

The Lord Chancellor (Lord Mackay of Clashfern)

The salary of a County Court Judge in Northern Ireland is currently £45,800. County Court Judges are in group 6 of the judicial salary structure. The Government has decided that they should be paid at the higher group 5 rate for as long as they are required to carry out significantly different work from their counterparts elsewhere in the United Kingdom, as is currently the case. They will therefore be paid £50,180 with effect from 1st April 1988, increasing to £50,900 with effect from October, in line with the Government's implementation of the recommendations on judicial salaries in the Top Salaries Review Body's 1988 report.
