HC Deb 19 October 1988 vol 138 c939W
Mr. William Ross

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many persons originally from(a) Northern Ireland and (b) the Irish Republic were in prisons in Scotland at the latest date for which figures are available.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

I regret that this information is not available in the format requested. However, in 1987, a total of 83 persons born in Northern Ireland and 34 persons born in the Irish Republic were received under sentence into penal establishments in Scotland.
