HC Deb 19 October 1988 vol 138 c853W
Mr. Spearing

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the current policy of Her Majesty's Government in respect of aid to Kampuchea; and what criteria or conditions will influence or determine any decision of Her Majesty's Government to again provide official aid to that country.

Mr. Andrew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what further plans there are for United Kingdom aid to the people of Kampuchea.

Mr. Chris Patten

We do not give official aid to Cambodia, and shall only be able to consider the provision of such aid when a government acceptable to the majority of Cambodians is in place. We are currently considering the provision of humanitarian aid via British non-governmental organisations working in Cambodia, and we contributed £100,000 to the World Food Programme/Food and Agriculture Organisation appeal launched in May.
