HC Deb 19 October 1988 vol 138 cc940-1W
Mr. Macdonald

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many helicopter patrols for the surveillance of inshore fisheries have been mounted during the current financial year; how many of these have been specifically or mainly for the surveillance of salmon fisheries; and what their total costs so far have been.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

Twenty-four separate patrols have been undertaken in the current financial year by helicopters hired for surveillance of Scottish inshore fisheries, which flew a total of 91½ hours at a cost of £56,137. To isolate the cost of salmon enforcement as distinct from other forms of enforcement is not feasible.
