§ Mr. PortilloThe following incidents have been reported to my Department between 1 October 1987 and 30 September 1988.
- General Lapas (Phillipines) (Merchant Vessel (MV)) Osco Spirit (Liberia) (MV)—In collision in Belfast Lough on 29.10.87
- Tipperary (Ireland) (MV) Sumburgh Head (Bermuda) (MV)—In collision off Dublin on 18.2.88
- Drum (Yacht) Otis (Submarine)—Yacht contacted unlit submarine 3½ miles south of Mull of Kintyre 27.7.88
- Ardlough (Antigua) (MV)—Flooded and sank in the Irish Sea on 26.9.88
- Ocean Gain (UK fishing vessel) (FV)—Founded off Holyhead on 1.3.88
- Mhairi (UK FV)—Capsized and sank off the West Coast of Iona on 17.1.88
- Alert II (UK FV)—Founded off the Isle of Muck on or about 3.5.88
- St Patrick (French FV)—Struck North Shoals and sank on 14.2.88
- Emma Jane (UK FV)—Flooded and sank 3 miles North East of Anglesey on 18.7.88
- Kaya (UK FV)—Collided in Loch Broom on 22.7.88
- Inspire (UK FV)—Capsized and sank off Cemaes Head, Cardigan, on 5.9.88
- Village Belle III (UK FV)—Struck a rock whilst departing from Kirkcudbright on 6.9.88 and subsequently sank.
§ Mr. FoulkesTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what representations he has received about recent loss of vessels, incidents and collisions in the Irish sea; what action he has taken as a result; and if he will make a statement.
