§ Mr. PikeTo ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will publish, using the 1979 base year figure of £971 million, the percentage charge of capital investment in the north-west in the years 1987 and 1988 to date; and if he will also give that figure as a cash sum for each year.
§ Mr. MaudeRegional capital expenditure data are available only for manufacturing industry. Results for 1987 and 1988 are not yet available. In current prices, net capital expenditure in manufacturing industry in the north-west region rose by 3 per cent, from £971 million in 1979 to £1,000 million in 1986. In constant (1980) prices, net capital expenditure fell by 38 per cent, from £1,118 million in 1979 to £698 million in 1986.
