Mr. Pawsey

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will give the levels of investment for British Rail for 1985–86, 1986–87 and 1987–88 together with the anticipated level of investment for 1988–89, 1989–90 and 1990–91, and in addition the figures to be broken down by region.

The levels of British Rail investment for the years in question are as follows:

BR's 1988 corporate plan shows an increasing investment programme, with total investment expenditure of around £2bn over the three years to 1990–91 (at current prices).

BR does not break the figures down on a regional basis.
