HC Deb 29 November 1988 vol 142 cc229-30W
106. Mr. Chapman

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will report progress on disposing of land surplus to his Department's requirements.

Mr. Freeman

The Ministry of Defence continues to keep its estate under review to identify and dispose of land which is surplus to Defence requirements. At present we are concentrating in particular on the disposal of high value land where this is conductive to efficiency and operational needs and we have a number of high value disposals underway in areas such as north-west London. Receipts from land and property sales in financial years 1987–88 totalled £77 million and the current estimate for receipts in 1988–89 is £148 million.
