§ Mr. AshleyTo ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will encourage community health councils to inquire into whether their local hospitals are keeping to statutory levels regarding the emission of carcinogens, pathogens, and other toxic chemicals; and if he will ensure that they receive the basic information that will enable them to make informed inquiries.
§ Mrs. CurrieCommunity health councils were established to represent the views of patients in their districts. They are independent of the Department and it would not be appropriate for the Department to encourage them to perform particular functions, especially those for which they have no special expertise.
