To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what resources the Government have allocated to the air defence of the United Kingdom since 1979.

Figures for the annual expenditure on the air defence of the United Kingdom are given in volume 2 of the annual statement on the Defence Estimates. These show that, since 1978–79, the Government have spent a total of some £5,488 million on air defence, with expenditure in each year as follows:
