To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what assurances will be required from any purchasers of British Rail Engineering Ltd. with regard to the pension and other rights of existing employees.

British Rail intends that employees of BREL will transfer to new owners with their existing terms and conditions of service. They will be able to preserve their accrued pension benefits in the BR scheme, or to transfer those benefits to a scheme set up by the owners.
