To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make it his policy to confer powers under section 138 of the Local Government Act 1972 to the London fire and civil defence authority; and if he will make a statement.

No. Earlier this year we considered very carefully the views of the authority on this point and decided that the case had not been made for legislation to confer on them powers under section 138 of the Local Government Act 1972.
