HC Deb 15 November 1988 vol 140 cc617-8W
1. Mr. Matthew Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what representations he has received concerning his Department's decision to dump military nuclear waste materials in Plymouth, Devonport.

Mr. Sainsbury

Intermediate level radioactive waste produced as a result of the refitting and supporting of nuclear submarines has been stored at Devonport since 1972. The present proposal is to build a special facility to store the waste until it can be disposed of elsewhere. We have received representations from around 20 local residents and from four hon. Members.
