HC Deb 14 November 1988 vol 140 c456W
Sir Philip Goodhart

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what instructions he has given for the modification of cars used by his Department so that they can use unleaded petrol.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

There are approximately 400 official vehicles operated by the Department of Social Security. The vast majority of these are incapable of running on or being converted to run on unleaded fuel. However instructions have been issued for the necessary work to be done to convert such vehicles where this is possible. Vehicles which cannot run on unleaded fuel will gradually be replaced by those which can, as they come to the end of their economic life.
