§ Mr. Austin MitchellTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, further to his reply dated 29 July,Official Report, column 738, he will publish in the Official Report a table showing the percentage increase since 1978–79 in the combined amount of income tax, residential rates and employee's national insurance compared to (i) the percentage increase in personal incomes and (ii) the percentage increase in the average amount of income tax and the national insurance contributions paid by higher-rate taxpayers; and if he will add figures showing the combined amount as a proportion of total incomes in 1978–79 and as forecast for the current financial year.
