§ Mr. Chris PattenUnder the Overseas Development Administration's joint funding scheme I have agreed to support the "Send a Cow" project in Uganda with a grant of up to £47,500 over the next three years. The project will provide selected farmers in Uganda with in-calf heifers which, it is hoped, will produce enough milk for their domestic needs as well as creating surpluses which will generate income. In providing an experienced stockman from Britain, the project organisers have recognised the need for careful supervision in the early stages and the need to train local people in the skills of dairy breeding and management.
