HC Deb 14 November 1988 vol 140 c499W
Dr. Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he has received any reports of abnormally high levels of atmospheric radioactivity in the Greater Manchester area on the night of Friday 28 October; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ridley

I shall write to the hon. Member.

Mr. Allen

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if his Department monitors levels of radioactivity in the Nottingham area.

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

Her Majesty's inspectorate of pollution carried out monitoring with respect to premises authorised under the Radioactive Substances Act 1960 where this is deemed necessary to confirm that radioactive discharge levels are environmentally safe. In addition a RIMNET monitoring station has been set up at Watnall in the Nottingham area.
