HC Deb 14 November 1988 vol 140 c467W
Mr. Tim Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport on what evidence he bases his assumption that about 13,000 to 15,000 vehicles per day will transfer from the M1 to the M40 when the M40 extension between Oxford and Birmingham is fully opened to traffic in 1991.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Our estimates of the traffic effects of building the M40 extension, including the transfer of traffic from the Ml, are based on forecasts derived from the Oxford to Birmingham traffic model developed by the Department for use in designing the scheme.
