To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will direct London Underground Ltd. to display posters on underground stations and trains advising travellers on the action they should take if they observe the committing of crimes.

I have no powers to give London Regional Transport directions of this kind, but I will draw the attention of the chairman to the hon. Member's suggestion.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many indictable crimes were committed on the London Underground in the last year.

Mr. Portillo

The number of indictable crimes recorded on the London Underground from 1 October 1987 to 30 September 1988 was 18,383.
