HC Deb 14 November 1988 vol 140 c450W
54. Mr. Harry Barnes

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will revise leaflet FB23 and remove the words on the YTS readingThis is a real chance for you to make a good start in life and to get training for skills and a recognised qualification.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

No. Recent surveys have shown that 75 per cent. of young people leaving YTS go into jobs, further education or training. They have also shown that 80 per cent. of those young people consider that they have benefited from their YTS training.

YTS has developed as an attractive and effective initial training scheme which is becoming the normal route into work for young people aged 16 and 17 leaving school. It provides the modern skills and qualifications that help young people get the jobs that the country needs to compete internationally.
