HC Deb 14 November 1988 vol 140 cc507-8W
Mr. Allen

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many people per thousand population are currently in bed-and-breakfast accommodation paid for by local authorities(a) in Nottingham and (b) in England and Wales.

Mr. Trippier

Nottingham city council reported that 0.24 per 1,000 of households in their area were homeless and temporarily placed in bed-and-breakfast accommodation at 30 June 1988. The corresponding estimate for all English authorities is 0.65 per thousand households. Some of the cost of providing this accommodation may be offset by contributions from household or by DHSS allowances. For Welsh figures I refer the hon. Member to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales.
