HC Deb 14 November 1988 vol 140 cc431-2W
Mr. McGrady

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what plans have been made to decentralise Government Departments to South Down.

Mr. Ian Stewart

No plans have been made to decentralise Government Departments to South Down.

Mr. McGrady

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what representations he has received about decentralisation of Government Departments to South Down.

Mr. Ian Stewart

The hon. Member wrote to me on 27 July opposing the planned closure of the Downpatrick valuation and lands office in the South Down constituency, and advocating that public offices should be decentralised from the Greater Belfast area and from larger towns in Northern Ireland. I replied on 31 August.
