§ Mr. AltonTo ask the Secretary of State for Health what representations he has received about the operation of privately rented homes for the elderly in Liverpool; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mrs. CurrieWe have received in the last six months one letter from the hon. Member dated 2 November, to which I will be replying shortly; and one other on the same subject to which my officials will reply shortly.
These letters concern the inspection of homes by the Liverpool city council as the registration authority. The council has however acted properly under the Registered Homes Act 1984.
§ Mr. HinchliffeTo ask the Secretary of State for Health when the social services inspectorate will be in a position to report on its first national inspection on the standards of local authority aged persons' homes.
§ Mrs. CurrieThe social services inspectorate is inspecting the arrangements in selected social services departments for managing the provision of residential care for elderly people. A sample of homes is being visited in the course of this inspection. The report on this study is expected by the summer of 1989. This is part of a national programme of work in support of the inspectorate's continuing task of monitoring local authority personal social services including residential care.
