HC Deb 14 November 1988 vol 140 c479W
Mr. McLoughlin

To ask the Secretary of State for Health when he expects to publish the third report from the sub-committee on nutritional surveillance of the Chief Medical Officer's committee on medical aspects of food policy.

Mrs. Currie

Copies of the full text of the third report of the sub-committee on nutritional surveillance have been placed in the Library and a summary is being published today.

The committee on medical aspects of food policy (COMA) has advised that the expense involved in publishing in full this lengthy scientific report, which mainly consists of papers that have already appeared in the scientific journals, would not be justified. However we have thought it right to make a summary available to the general public, both as a record of British achievement in nutrition science and to maintain public awareness of the valuable work that the Government are sponsoring to increase scientific knowledge about nutrition and health.
