HC Deb 14 November 1988 vol 140 c365W
Mr. Adley

To ask the Prime Minister, pursuant to her oral answer to the hon. Member for Christchurch on 1 November,Official Report, column 820, concerning priorities for rail investment in the Channel tunnel, whether she will list the priorities of the Government in connection with providing the maximum benefits to the nation through improved rail links to the Channel tunnel.

The Prime Minister

British Rail, not the Government, is responsible for determining priorities for rail investment, including that associated with the Channel tunnel. We have already approved in principle tunnel-related investment by BR of some £600 million, and we shall be happy to consider further proposals put to us which can be justified on a commercial basis.
