HC Deb 11 November 1988 vol 140 c364W
Mr. Curry

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what is his target for procurement savings in 1988–89; when it was declared; and what is his estimate of the likelihood of its being achieved.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The Department's target is £61.68 million or 5.1 per cent. of purchasing expenditure. We are making useful progress towards it. It is too soon to predict the outturn.

Mr. Curry

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what is his target for procurement savings in 1987–88 as a percentage of total budget; and what was the comparable target in the previous year.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The Department's target amounted to 3.1 per cent. of the total budget, compared with 1.3 per cent. in the previous year. Savings actually achieved amounted to 3.2 per cent. (or £37 million).

Mr. Curry

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what was his target for procurement savings in his Department for 1986–87 expressed as a percentage of total budget; what percentage was achieved; and what was the relationship of actual to target savings.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The Department's target amounted to 1.3 per cent. of total budget. The percentage actually achieved was 1.9 (or £20.18 million). This was an improvement of 45 per cent. over target.
