However, before Mr. Farnham and a number of other health authority chairmen were appointed or reappointed from 1 April 1988, the then Minister for Health, my right hon. Friend the Member for Braintree (Mr. Newton) invited nominations from all hon. Members in his reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Chipping Barnet (Mr. Chapman) on 23 July at column491.
