HC Deb 11 November 1988 vol 140 c333W
Mr. Vaz

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs when he next plans to visit India; and if he will make a statement on current Indo-British relations.

Mr. Waldegrave

My right hon. and learned Friend has visited India on a number of occasions and hopes to do so again, but he has no specific plans for a visit at present. Relations between India and Britain are close, reflecting the substantial and varied links between our two countries. During the past few years there have been some ups and downs in the relationship but latterly a better understanding has been established and our relations are currently good. We are looking for ways to make our co-operation still closer.
