§ Mr. Denzil DaviesTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is Her Majesty's Government's estimate, in pounds sterling, of the value (i) of direct investment and (ii) portfolio investment in the United Kingdom from the rest of the EEC in each financial year from 1981 to the latest available year; and what is the corresponding value of such investment by the United Kingdom in the rest of the EEC.
§ Mr. Lawson[holding answer 8 November 1988]: Estimates of direct investment flows between the United Kingdom and EEC are available up to 1986 in British Business, but only on a calendar year basis. These are reproduced in table 1.
Estimates of United Kingdom portfolio investment in the EEC and of EEC portfolio investment in the United Kingdom are incomplete and not separately published. However, table 10.1 of the CSO "Pink Book" publishes estimates of total direct and portfolio investment flows between the United Kingdom and EEC, to the extent that these are available.
