HC Deb 10 November 1988 vol 140 c277W
Mr. Butler

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what proportion of drinking water samples in England are found to be unwholesome under the interpretation of the European Community directive relating to water quality.

Mr. Moynihan

[holding answer 7 November 1988]: Out of several thousand supplies in England some 200 regularly exceed one or other of the limits set by the EC drinking water directive for certain parameters; however programmes of improvement are in hand for most of these.
