HC Deb 10 November 1988 vol 140 cc302-3W
Sir Eldon Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what research and development work he has commissioned into low-observable stealth systems; and what arrangements there are for the integration into NATO airforces of stealth type aircraft.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

The Ministry of Defence is conducting a programme of basic applied research relating to low observable air systems. This programme is aimed at understanding the techniques and technologies involved, with a view to the application to future generations of fixed wing aircraft, air-launched weapons, helicopters and unmanned aircraft.

There are no plans to introduce stealth aircraft into RAF service in the near future. It is not our practice to comment on the plans of other NATO air forces.
