HC Deb 10 November 1988 vol 140 c266W
Mrs. Rosie Barnes

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if there are any further plans to introduce measures to increase road safety for pedestrians on the line of the initiative taken at the Westminster bridge, County hall, St. Thomas's hospital junction, by which traffic is stopped at a distance from pedestrian crossings.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The initiative for introducing such measures rests primarily with local highway authorities. The relevant regulations give them some discretion and, where necessary, they can seek approval to the use of non-prescribed signs for use with such facilities.
