HC Deb 10 November 1988 vol 140 c291W
Mr. John Carlisle

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what evidence has been given to him of Irish nationals arriving at United Kingdom airports and making immediate claims for benefit from social security offices.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

Citizens of the Republic of Ireland have no conditions attached to their stay and are able to claim income support in the same way as United Kingdom citizens. If my hon. Friend has evidence that the system is not working as it should, I should be grateful if he would let me have details.
