HC Deb 10 November 1988 vol 140 c312W
Mr. Barry Field

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is his latest estimate of funds reaching the Irish Republican Army from the United States of America.

Mr. Tom King

The Irish Northern Aid Committee (Noraid) is believed to be the main source of United States funding of the Provisional IRA and is obliged by United States law to lodge accounts with the Federal authorities. Declared accounts for the year February 1987—January 1988 show transfers to An Cumann Cabrach of $152,000. An Cumann Cabrach purport to operate as a support fund for prisoners' dependants. I am not in a position to publish estimates of the possible overall income from the United States of America.
