To ask the Secretrary of State for Northern Ireland what representations he has received concerning the future of Harland and Wolff; and if he will make a statement.

My right hon. Friend and I have met the board of Harland and Wolff, representatives of the Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions and the Alliance party for Northern Ireland for discussions about the future of the company. Several letters on this subject have also been received including those from a number of Northern Ireland district councils, the hon. Members for Leicester, South (Mr. Marshall) and for Warrington, North (Mr. Hoyle) and Dr. John Alderdice of the Alliance party for Northern Ireland.
