Q170. Dr. Bray

To ask the Prime Minister which Minister is responsible for research into the global environment.

The Prime Minister

The Secretary of State for Education and Science has primary responsibility for basic and long-term strategic research into the global environment supported from public funds, through his responsibility for the science base in the research council and universities. Other Ministers fund research into the global environment as may be necessary for their statutory and policy responsibilities. Near market research is the responsibility of industry.
