HC Deb 10 November 1988 vol 140 cc293-4W
Mr. Win Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security (1) if he will make it his policy that the rules currently governing the payment of pensions and benefits will not be changed to exclude people who currently receive them and could be expected to receive them in the near future;

(2) if he will make it his policy that no person in receipt of a pension or benefit of any kind will lose it as a result of his expressed intention to target help to those he defines as poor.

Mr. Scott

We have no plans to alter the basis on which the basic state pension is paid, or to introduce any modification to our reform of the state earnings-related pension scheme. It is not our intention that anyone in receipt of retirement pension or any other benefit should lose entitlement as a result of our plans to make additional resources available to pensioners on lower incomes.
