HC Deb 09 November 1988 vol 140 cc195-7W
Ms. Harman

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will publish in theOfficial Report the figures for the number of pre-school places per 1,000 of the under-five population in education authorities grouped by political control on the classification used in his reply to the hon. Member for Livingston (Mr. Cook) on 8 July 1986, Official Report, column 149.

Mr. Butcher

[holding answer 3 November 1988]: Information on pre-school places is not collected centrally. The number of pupils under five in maintained nursery and primary schools per 1,000 of the estimated three and four-year-old population in each local education authority in England in January 1988 is given in the table. The political grouping is the same as that given in the reply of my hon. Friend the Member for Dartford (Mr. Dunn) on 8 July 1986 at columns 149–52.
