§ Mr. LangIn 1987 the level of manufacturing output per employee in Scotland was 55 per cent. higher than in 1979. Indeed between 1979 and 1987 manufacturing productivity in Scotland increased by 5.6 per cent. per annum, faster than that achieved in any of the major seven OECD economies.
