HC Deb 09 November 1988 vol 140 c230W
38. Mr. Jack

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the level of manufacturing output per employee in Scotland in 1987; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lang

In 1987 the level of manufacturing output per employee in Scotland was 55 per cent. higher than in 1979. Indeed between 1979 and 1987 manufacturing productivity in Scotland increased by 5.6 per cent. per annum, faster than that achieved in any of the major seven OECD economies.
