HC Deb 09 November 1988 vol 140 c185W
Mrs. Margaret Ewing

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department on how many occasions in each of the past five years passport department officers have had to make applications for duplicated(a) birth and (b) marriage certificates as a result of these being lost (i) within the departmental offices or (ii) in the post.

Mr. Renton

I regret that the information requested is not available. In the comparatively rare instances when personal documents submitted in support of passport applications go astray within the passport offices, or are subsequently lost in the post, replacements are provided at no cost to the applicant.
