To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science when he proposes next to meet the chairman and chief executive designates of the Universities Funding Council to discuss the funding of higher education.

Mr. Jackson

We have had discussions on a range of issues with the chairman of the Universities Funding Council, Lord Chilver. These will continue. In addition, my right hon. Friend wrote to him on 31 October to give some general guidance to the council on its funding responsibilities.
